Here are the Steps to living a healthy life

How to start living healthily

1-start with why you want to be healthy, for me, it started with losing weight

I wanted to lose weight and build muscles, and was sick and tired of postponing it every time with a different excuse

My why changed and evolved after that to be that I want to be healthy, to be strong, to build muscles,

and ultimately, I want to take care of myself in my later years without help from others

Start with your intention from the start, before you do, no matter what the reason, we all have to start somewhere

2-find a simple push program to kickstart(optional)

I found a weight loss program that was focused on building muscles through workouts and eating less

while having plenty of nutrients, and it was an intensive 3-week program

I never did something similar again but I loved the results and strength,

So I kept working out and eating healthy, not perfectly, and as I said above, with time my why changed

You can find some kind of program to help you reach your why (choose from a trusted expert)

Just to give you a push at the beginning, especially if your goal is to lose weight or build muscles

Only do it if you want to but honestly, it’s not necessary

3-understand what you need to do /learn to be healthy, which is very little (return to the basics)

In general, getting healthy isn’t complicated if you don’t have any disease

I watched many videos and took a couple of courses.

Here is what it boils down to, without all the fluff and the trends that come and go

There are two areas of health

Physical health and mental health

won’t be diving into mental health here, but you can check these posts to learn

Let’s dive into physical health

There are always things changing, myths and misinformation circling around on the internet, but the basics never change. You can be creative in how you do it

The basic health information you need:

1-sleep enough hours daily

2-relax and the right environment before bed to get quality sleep

3-reduce junk food in your life, follow the 20/80 rule

20% of the food you eat can be junk food and 80% healthy

4-balance your meals as much as possible (veggies, protein, complex carb(fiber), fats, fruits)

5-movemnt daily: ideally three types: one is something to build muscles, another for cardio(general movement included), and one for mobility, all important for staying strong

Depending on your circumstances, add one or more, but make it easy

4-start the change by creating a plan(changing one simple habit at a time or take a small action

Create a simple plan incorporating what you know about becoming healthy

1-What are you focusing on right now ie, your intention/goal?

2-What will you do to improve your sleep? What will you do to eat healthy? What will you do to move your body? What is easy, doable, and visible to you right now?

sample plan: (you can go deeper and in more detail)

First, if you are focusing on becoming healthy. Here is how

1-sleep: will go to bed early, sleep 7 h daily,

2-food: introduce veggies in every meal, swapping unhealthy food with healthier options

3-movement; walk daily and 3 weightlifting sessions per week

4-learn and use YouTube for inspiration

If you have a certain goal like losing weight or building muscles, it’s best to look for professional help to help you with the diet and the workout

Otherwise, start where you are feeling tired of doing to yourself

For me, right now, it would be mainly sleep

I have had problems with sleeping early and feeling well rested, so my focus is now on improving my sleep.

I want to eat more healthy in general

Here is my plan for achieving them

For sleep, having a shut-down routine to signal and lead my mind to relax, finish night routine early by starting earlier,

noticing the urge to stay late(acknowledge it and not do it despite the feeling of discomfort and learn to sit with it

For eating healthy, adding nuts and seeds every other day, incorporating healthy fats into my meals, and always having protein in every meal.

5-keep yourself motivated and inspired

i did it at first by consuming health content and learning about health because i was interested in it, and still I am.

At the beginning, it helped keep health present in my life, and exposed me to new ways to be healthy that are still helpful and right

For consuming content,

i would recommend choosing someone who is neutral in their views about health and is not extreme, and limit them to 3 or less, and for general inspiration from non-experts, the sky is the limit

Another way is

to have a Vision board of the ideal healthy lifestyle to look at regularly (i have pictures of workouts, healthy food, and other habits i want to be doing in my life to live healthy)

Maybe find a buddy of yours on this journey

Or you can find online communities or local ones

How to keep living healthy

1-create an identity of a healthy person

Your identity is what drives your actions, so to be really healthy, identify it, then build it into every action and acknowledgement you do

Here is mine: I am healthy inside and outside, and I am the type of person who takes care of myself

I repeat it, make goals based on it, and add habits in accordance with it, and find myself even if I “fall off track” get back on

2-making small changes and adopting small habits

At the end of the day, health is a collection of habits, actions, and mindsets that you accumulate not at once but gradually over time

Start replacing habits you have with ones you want, and make small choices every day toward your identity as a healthy person

Strengthen your identity with action goals and habits; they are the gateway to changing your identity and ultimately living a healthy life

You are what you do repeatedly; therefore, think about what habits you need to change that harm your health? Then, start replacing one with a new habit that improves your health

I built my habits gradually over the years, intentionally, learning to cook better, food prep, reaching for more healthy snacks and meals, and working out consistently

3-focusing on the basics

When in doubt, focus on improving your sleep, what you eat, and adding movement

You can’t go wrong with them; no fancy supplements, equipment, or devices needed for getting healthy

They are add-ons and nice to have

It all comes down to your desire for change, why you are doing it, and taking small action toward it every day.

It takes time to change, so give yourself grace and compassion as you embark on this journey of becoming healthy

You have chosen to do right by yourself, be proud of yourself for that, and start
