7 summer self care tips:

1-cooling yourself down

Being hot is irritating and annoying and takes my focus away from what i want to do to how hot i feel

This summer, i am getting hotter than ever, and when that happens, I find myself annoyed, irritated, unable to focus,

distracted by the heat on the inside and outside, reduced overall performance, difficulty understanding what i am learning or working on

That’s why it is important to cool yourself

Not to mention the health risks heat could pose from dehydration, stress, fainting, heatstroke, and worse

Here are a few ways to cool down if you get really hot, as I do

1-use cooling pads on your neck, wrists, or underpits; these places help cool the whole system

because the blood vessels here are closer to the skin’s surface, which helps cool down the bloodstream faster

2-put your legs in a bucket full of cold water; that would cool your whole body

3-drink water with a pinch of salt and a squeeze of lemon,

This helps your body absorb the water, not letting it go to your urine instead, as dehydration leads to being hotter (more in the next point)

4-take warm showers to prevent your blood vessels from constricting, which traps heat inside and increases the warmth inside

5-drink icy hibiscus tea; icy lemon with mint and honey will help cool you down, hydrate, get rid of excess heat and salt

2-hydrating yourself

With heat, we lose a lot of water from our skin as sweat, and to prevent dehydration, which is harmful to our mental and physical wellbeing, hydration is a must

When I get dehydrated,I lose focus, get irritated, i get headaches, brain fogs too

Here are a few ways to increase your hydration:

Keep a water bottle with you and finish at least one water bottle per day

Drink and eat other water-rich fruits and vegetables like watermelon, cucumber, celery, cantaloupe, peaches

I found that it’s helpful to add a pinch of salt to your water if you drink purified water and a squeeze of lemon to help with absorbing the water

3-wear light and breathable clothes

Wear cotton(Voile/Muslin), linen, bamboo viscose, natural silk.. Also, wear short clothes

Clothes must allow airflow around your body and moisture to evaporate to disperse heat and keep your body cool and not suffocate you

Polyester and other synthetic fabrics tend to keep our bodies’ heat enclosed in a bubble and stop air from circulating around us to disperse the heat, and

as you know, feeling hot in the minimum will irritate you, make you lose focus, not to mention its severe effects on the body

When i synthetic clothe i feel hotter, which leads to physical and mental stress, discomfort, and lack of focus and output for me

That’s why i switched some of my clothes to breathable types and wear tank tops and shorter pants

(i didn’t want to throw all my clothes away because that would be a waste and leave for when the weather gets cooler, but I decided to be selective when i go shopping from now on)

After doing that,I feel better, and my body is less heated and more comfortable to sit and write this and do other things too

4-move your body

This is always going to be the number one self-care tip for all seasons

We need movement to live and thrive in life

And you can adjust it based on the season if you prefer to make it colorful and fun

Like picking up a sport for the summer, like swimming, volleyball, soccer, diving, running, etc

Or simply taking long walks, working out outside if you want and can

I’m focusing on flexibility workout for the for the joints and my regular resistance workout with walking leisurely here and there

5-hydrating and light skincare

Choosing the appropriate skincare for the season is a must to keep your skin glowing, plump and healthy

This season requires more hydration and cooling, for both your body and your face and neck

In the summer, I tend to gravitate to lighter moisturizers, fewer products, cooling, soothing, refreshing, and hydrating products,

In ingredients like hyaluronic acid, panthenol, aloe vera, Centella Asiatica and Green Tea, Cucumber extract,Watermelon Extract

Of course, this depends on your skin and what it needs; this is a general guideline, not specific to your case or skin concerns

I have dry skin which requires hydration, moisturization all year round; I just vary the texture of the moisturizer and

some ingredients to help my concerns, which are to cool my skin and prevent water loss from my skin

6-going outside to a park to walk, sit, or otherwise

If the weather isn’t too hot and it’s not the peak sun hours. I think going outside is refreshing and helps you

connect with yourself, lose the pressure of everyday life.

Just being in the fresh air Changes your mood and improves your state

If I have the chance, I like to go to a park to walk, sit, or to take a breather from everyday life

7-mental care

mental health is important all year round and especially in a season where irritation, aggression, or anger from heat is at an all-time high

taking care of your mental health helps improve your mood, unload any burden that you may be carrying,

help you feel better, thus act more on what benefits you, make fewer mistakes, learn fast, make better decisions, and so on

The easiest 3 ways I found to help you care for your mind without a need for prior knowledge are

1-brain dump: bring a pen and journal; then start writing whatever you are feeling, thinking,…etc anything on your mind,

anything you want to capture, anything you consult yourself on…

2-mental check-ins: about taking moments during your day to check in with yourself; what you are feeling at the moment, what you are thinking and why,

what to do to fix it, what you need to do right now, who are you right now; is it your best self or not.

this help you regulate your nervous system and become aware of your thoughts, patterns, and feelings

3-breathing: at different times during the day, take a deep breath; inhale and exhale slowly for 5 min

or do the sigh, which is to take 2 inhales one after the other, then exhale slowly from your stomach
