How To Reach Any Goal: Tools To Pursue Any Goal
it is crucial to take consistent action toward your goals and actively pursue them
I know Pursuing your goals can be challenging but to get to your end destination you need to do it
Otherwise, you have unfulfilled dreams and wishes not goals and you don’t want that
So, to help you pursue and achieve your goals I compiled 8 tools to help you do
In this post, you will learn the tools that will help you reach your goals based on science
this post is the 6th post in the start the year Strong to grow series
you’ll find link to all the posts in the series at the end of the post
What you’ll learn:
- 8 tools to help you pursue your goals
- why should use each one
- How to use each one

tools to pursue any goal you want to achieve
1- narrowing your visual attention to a point at the horizon and use focal vision to initiate goal pursuit
How to do it
Looking at a particular point on the horizon without moving your head or blinking for 1 min
at the same focus on the goal line
What happens here
This increases your systolic blood pressure, fires the neurocircuits that help you get ready to move
Which puts you in a state of readiness and alertness
2-multitasking before getting to work
how to do it
do different things before working then when work time comes stop everything and focus
What happens here /why/how is it helpful according to science
It helps release epinephrine and dopamine which will help you put in a state of alertness
And focus makes you ready to tackle your task

3-self image
why to do it?
it will motivate you to pursue and achieve it
how to do it
Seeing yourself do the thing motivates you to do it
visualizing yourself doing the thing ie. achieving your goal, and living it
4-visualization at the start
imaging the long-term goal and vision helps you start the process of pursuing your goal
Why do it at the start or different intervals but not all the time
It helps get the process of pursuing the goal started but is not effective
in keeping it all the way to achieving the goal
what happens inside you when you do it
It increases blood pressure ramping up the readiness and excitement
of the goal at the start but over time it starts to waver
5-visualizing failure (foreshadowing failure)
Why should you do it?
To help maintain motivating you to pursue your goals
if you focus routinely on foreshadowing failure
it doubles your chances of reaching your goal
how to do it?
Think of the ways you will fail if you take action A,B,C,..etc
How things would fail if you don’t do action A? How bad it’s going to be if you fail?
Write, think, and talk about how bad it would be
if you don’t achieve your goals the more likely you will achieve those goals
Why does it increase your chances of reaching the goal?
It leads to an increase in systolic blood pressure and readiness to do it
the amygdala(involved in worry, fear, and anxiety) is responsible for goal assessment, and pursuit too
The brain and body are much better at moving away from fearful things
than towards things we want
Avoidance circuits are much better in helping you move toward your goal
Our brains learn from one trial when they encounter something that we need to avoid so they orient themselves toward not doing it
example of this is in the case of food poisoning
6- ensure that the goal is specific
This means you have a concrete plan with details on what will do to get there,
what success looks like here
So, you know what you really want, to clear destination to assess progress toward or it will be
more on how to set goals with science in this article

7- weekly assessment
See how you did and how the plan is going and update the plan based on performance, action or lack there are and circumstances and situations you faced
why should you do it?
To assess progress and update your plans as needed
This process needs to be done constantly as well as updating the plan to have a high probability of achieving the goal
Plus, it helps dopamine released consistently because you will reward yourself as you assess or after it
how can you do this?
i have an article here where i share the process of my weekly review that you can use to assess your progress
8-randomly reward yourself to take advantage of the dopamine system
we learned in this post that dopamine has a spike increase when something unexpected happens
that’s why,
randomly reward yourself on what you do and the progress you’ve made
how to do it
on different intervals or times of day reward yourself to get a boost of dopamine
