Eliminate Procrastination to Accomplish Your Goals
For so long in my life I found myself in a constant state of procrastination I will be very excited about a project, a task or a goal and really want to do it which I write down, plan it if it need to that when procrastination strikes I found any little excuse to put it off for later in the day or in a different day and keep doing it for a while or I just have an urge to drink water or eat something or talk to anyone in my house or listen to a song I feel pulled away from doing the task. if this sounds familiar to you-you are maybe like me and if you dig deep you’ll find the same reasons I wrote here apply to you too.
when I think about why I do these things I came to conclusion it’s either fear or lack of confidence or it’s big project or task and takes long and my brain try to elongate for some reason because it going to takes a lot of energy or because it’ uncomfortable and new push for me in some ways or maybe it’s a form stress relieve like Mel Robbins said which I thought before.
How to find out why you Procrastinate
1-Simply ask yourself why you are doing it and be honest because the answer is for you
2-observe yourself and see the patterns instead of getting mad at yourself I know it is hard not to feel guilty and mad at yourself but you have to bear with it and write what happened that day, time that prevented you from doing it don’t judge just write it down and write if it was you or outer reasons and what you could have done that would help you do it even if what it came from outside is urgent .
Ways to Eliminate Procrastination to Accomplish Your Goals
1-accept responsibility: what you going to find out that you could have done it if you did it first thing in the morning or something else. also, by accepting that you’re responsible you give yourself control to do something about any problem or circumstance you’re in.
2-write a goal and plan and do: one reason you are procrastinating is because you are a perfectionist and you want to have all the steps and the right ones and you don’t know all in reality and you feel to search more and learn before starting anything but you need to remember that you will never have all the things from start you just keep evolving and learning and improve as you go along personally and in any work you do so, next time when you feel the urge to postpone more just do as you know right now to know and keep learning and evolving. I still struggle with this from time to time.
3-simplify any tasks or project and focus on that simple step, not the whole project or goal because that going help you when you feel intimidated and overwhelmed.
4-increase the importance of the small task if you find you keep putting off a task or goal off maybe because it is easy and so simple(the opposite of the previous point but it happens that’s why you need to know why you procrastinate this specific thing) everything you do adds up the smalls one build the big ones and all will play role in reaching and completing your goals.
5-build habits that serve you: don’t rely on you to feel like doing something that’s why building habits, routines that serve you and help you feel bold, unstoppable, ready to conquer and believe in yourself think of the things you did that made feel this way and put it in a routine.
6- change your environment: in a way that makes it inspire you, influence you to act
7- create an environment of total focus: this I learned from Robin Sharma way if you get distracted easily this will help a lot.cut off completely from social media and be hard to reach and focus on the work. you can do it in a batching way you can have the morning for creative stuff and afternoon for non-creative like answering emails, go to meetings.. or have days deducted only for creative work or any work of similar manner.
8-starting ritual if the cause is stress: how? when stress triggers you count 5,4,3,2,1 then go do the thing you need to work on and do it for 5 minutes at first.
peace and love
