get your goals back on track

Are you behind on your goals? Did you fall behind on your goals?

are you thinking that I already wasted so much time there’s not much time left to reach them?

Following our goals isn’t a straight line it may seem that way

because our brains love to think linearly. I know how hard it is, disheartening and discouraging to fall behind

that’s why i wrote this to help you and myself to get back to the track and reach the finish line

  • Why do you  lose track of your goals
  • How to get back on track with your goals

Let’s get to it!!!

how to get your goals back on track _How to stay on track with your goals

Why do you fall behind with your goals…

1-losing connection with your goals on a regular

it means not doing the work that is related to your goals consistently.

may you get busy with admin stuff, busy with something not related directly to your goal

or the actual steps that lead to it

Say you’re a writer and you want to grow your presence online but you don’t write daily or

consistently which leads you to not post on social media consistently over time

which will increase the resistance to doing both

every time you get back to them so, keeping consistent actions toward  each important goal is an important and

knowing what the important action steps to take matter here fiddling around with design and aesthetics for days, weeks,

or here and there where you should’ve written and posted isn’t the same

treat your goals like a relationship to build a relationship you must meet the other person

and go on dates with them so, do the same with your goals

Not keeping consistent actions that you take toward your goals leads to resistance

that’s why to schedule specific times to work on your goals on your calendar and treat them as dates

2-falling prey to the comparison of what’s going on with other people

I think many of you know how comparison can ruin your mood and your best intentions.

it’s okay to get inspired by others’ success but not let it consume you.

Keep up with them and knowing what they do and where they are at won’t cause you any good

It starts self-sabotaging behavior of putting yourself down, feeling behind,

what’s the point, why isn’t happening to me…etc and you know the rest

Keep your inspiration to the minimum or none at all if you know that leads

you to this self-sabotage and stress cycle

I omitted all the people who used to inspire me because

watching them wasn’t helpful for mental health and action.

I don’t envy them but I get into self-pity, sabotage, and become anxious

3-losing belief in yourself and that you can do it

That’s a big one!!! how can you take action when you do not believe you can make it no matter

how long it takes If you are not you’ll slowly stop taking action or stop taking important actions

It has happened to me countless times and it goes like this

I don’t connect with my goals or my belief in myself which led me to a period

where i couldn’t work or barely do something,

and at times, i kept taking action but did so much unimportant work like wasting time on researching,

looking for the best way to build my social media and blog without taking action toward it

It’s important to take the time to examine your self-belief now and then

work on changing it look into more details in the how-to section below

4- getting distracted by the internet and social media

distraction has many reasons one of which can be mindset like you think the work is hard,

it’ll take time, i can’t do it but i have to kind of thinking

which happens more often than not unconsciously you’re not aware of it at the moment of

what you’re thinking which leads you to procrastinate or get distracted by social media or tv

Another reason is the dopamine hit you get from scrolling and watching YouTube…

It’s addictive and easy to obtain just open your phone and walla!!! you get to feel good

Working toward our goals isn’t fast rewarding it requires patience to get there

and willingness to make your own reward based on your effort, not the results

Break this habit by gaining awareness and associating pain with doing it

by doing regular check-ins and making the answer painful

ask yourself the following questions: Do I want to be doing what I’m doing right now?

Am I having a good time/fun? Is this a 7/10 experience?

It breaks the habit loop when you answer NO and feel it which breaks the reward habit loop

NOTE: these questions and ideas I got from muchelleb

5-letting fear and doubts consume you

If you’re afraid of something or having doubts about your ability to get there or

you have doubts about the road itself you’ll sabotage yourself so hard

despite your best efforts to work toward your goals

That’s why being aware of yourself and what you think is important

Identifying your fears and doubts to challenge them and overcome them

look the how in the next section

get back to the track with these tips…

1-connect with your goals regularly

I touched on this above but to expand I want to share how I do it and more ideas

the first way is scheduling regular times to work on my goals, especially the needle mover tasks

Set specific times to take action not doing admin work or any behind the scene work for these connection times

the second way i do it through Always reviewing my goals monthly and quarterly

Losing the connection with your goals will make it hard to take action on them

and cause resistance you don’t want

2-manage your thoughts and stress

I haven’t been doing that for 2 years now and that impacted my mental health and how I work

I have been stuck in the same thoughts of doubts, fear, and helplessness for so long

This year, i decided to get back into it, and the way I do it through journaling

It’s the best way after therapy i presume because I haven’t tried that

another version of journaling is voice recording and use it as if you’re speaking to someone

Our brains run rampant without supervision and constant monitoring it start to go into darker places, old places, and comfortable even though painful places

which will cause us to procrastinate stress, be anxious, and distracted

so, it’s important to do manage your thoughts and find a way that works for you

3-planning correctly and plan your scroll

Proper planning is key to taking intentional actions that lead to your goals.

The important thing is to allow some space for tweaking your schedule as go

4-overcome fear and doubt

Identifying your fears and doubts to challenge them and overcome them look the how in the next section

Ask yourself: what I am afraid of right now? Is it related to my goals?

What fears do I have about (goal) reaching it, putting the effort toward it?

What can i do if my fears become reality? (solutions)

Will I be okay if any of my fears happen?

this takes time and awareness at the moment so,

another thing is to identify your thinking and feelings when you’re procrastinating, busy working, or doing anything besides your goals in their times,

ask yourself: what did I feel before doing this? What am I feeling right now?

What did I think that led me to this action? What am I thinking while doing it?

The 1st question in both is to identify the thoughts before

The 2ed to identify the feelings and thoughts you are having when you are doing them that will help you

see what thoughts lead you into distraction and procrastination that you can change them

It’s ok if you don’t remember what led to that but doing this will make you aware next time

The goal is to shift your thinking to change your feelings and thus take action in the right direction

Fear is part of life of the process of going through real goals that change your life

so, embrace it as the guide, not the deterrent “I can do it despite whatever fear I’m feeling”

Gaining awareness, shifting my perspective, and learning to take action

despite how i feel is what I did and still do but not perfectly

I fall into these rabbit holes too and sometimes it takes me ages to notice and change things

are all humans and fear can easily seep in because it’s in our nature to run from and look out for danger

to be afraid or doubtful but get our goals back on track we need to adapt to fear and accept it

5-work on believing in yourself again

it’s crucial to believe in yourself so, you don’t sabotage and take the needle-mover actions

instead of fiddling around or procrastinating.

believing in yourself starts with identifying the limiting beliefs you have about yourself

by looking at your actions and what you do then

identifying the thoughts behind them and working on changing them 2 ways to do it

the first one is, Finding a time when you did believe in yourself and reconnecting with that,

second is, to understand why you do not believe in yourself (thoughts that you have),

challenge those limiting beliefs then create new beliefs about yourself (it can be done through creating affirmations ie.new beliefs)

after that,Take action that proves you can do it

6-shift my mindset to a military mood

it’s about discipline taking action as planned without questioning and giving in to your mind’s whims.

In the military, they act as planned and ordered without questioning.

they follow orders and have routines that they follow without fail. In our case,

we set the goals and plans we act on without giving in to our mind’s whims, fear, and negative thoughts

we don’t listen to it when it try to deter us from the task at hand.

we don’t shut our inner voice but we act on our task by questioning

It’s a mindset that i thought it might help me since sometimes i need to be tough with myself

of course, it doesn’t work for everyone but you can try it and see for yourself

7-change your self-image or concept to that of what you want to be by the end of the year

Prioritize changing how you see yourself because we always act in accordance with

what we think  we are without that we sabotage a lot and get further from our goals

Think about who you want to be(characteristics, identity),

what kind of person who would achieve this goal, what does this person do, how they act and behave

Turn who you want to be into a sentence that you repeat daily and put the actions they do into action.
