How To Review Your Year: My Year In Review

(year in review)

I’ll share the questions that I use to review my year & my experience to shine the light on what happened during this time

Reviewing your year is so important to let you know what happened,

what you did or didn’t do, to help you recognise your own mistakes and achievements.

Who were you and who are you now. improve and become better on a personal level and other levels too

continuously growing is the goal for us and reflection is a great tool to help you see it because we don’t feel we’re growing in the day to day

As an entrepreneur, it’s so important to review your numbers, your effort, your growth in your business and of course in your life as a whole

Entrepreneurship is about growth and change that happen whether you like it or not because that’s the nature of the job.

you can make it happens effectively by taking the time to sit and reflect on the past

then move on to create a better future and now

I’ve never skipped a yearly review since 2014 (that’s as far as I can remember)

It was & is (I’ve gotten so much better at thinking about it’s the year went on) uncomfortable to do it

because it requires a lot of mental energy and the fear of facing my shortcomings, failures, mistakes were so painful to see

but I kept at it even I took a month  to do it at times

Without doing that I wouldn’t have gotten better, wouldn’t have known what I need it to work on

Here are all the questions I use in reviewing my year in summary

1-What am I proud of? what went well this year?

2-What didn’t go well? what mistakes I did?

3-What am I willing to let go of that’s taking space? What will be room for?

4-What did you learn? what are the lessons that you learned that you will carry on?

5-a bonus question: who were you in January? who are you now?

if you want a printable copy get the following workbook which has everything from reflecting on your year to setting your goals & planning them

Here is an explanation for each question alongside my answers

1-What am I proud of? What went well this year?

This Q to help you reflect on your accomplishments big or small

Mental or tangible achievements even if you didn’t achieve your goal as long as you took action, have grown that matter a lot more

I didn’t reach my business goal of making $10,000 in revenue or even come close the past year

I came close in a mental state but have yet to make it a reality but I can

Here are things I am proud of from the past year

1-creating the self-confidence masterclass for female entrepreneurs click here to sign up

I was so in my own way but I managed to get out of my own way and create it

2-started connecting and building relationships on social media

I had a huge resistance and felt confused about it for a long time. It is such a huge thing to me

Making it simple and easy when I think about it is something I am proud of

and not discounting my efforts if it didn’t meet my high standards

doing it more often than not consistently is more important while focusing on truly connecting not selling or my benefit from it

3-started doing lives videos on Instagram to express myself and help you my audience

checkout my Instagram here while you’re there say “Hi” in the comments or DMs

4-showed up by introducing myself, help others on social media

shared my free coaching offer and got many people interested

2-What didn’t go well? what mistakes did I do?

the important thing here especially is to not add your judgment while thinking & writing it lay them as they are without any judgment

Here’s mine:

1- I didn’t make any money

2-setting up a sales page

was distracted by other things even though I had a revenue goal

I felt I couldn’t do it unless reaching a certain following & audience size on Instagram (1k followers) or the blog(10k views)

3-sell coaching because I was in my own way. overthinking the steps,

overcomplicating and avoiding taking action altogether

it was obvious because of my fears and insecurities about myself,

my ability to help people, and feeling inferior to others doing it that I admire

4- I was so wrapped up in my own mind by overthinking & overcomplicating everything I can

3-What did you learn? what are the lessons that you learned that you will carry on?

These can be lessons you just learned by reflecting right now or learned during the year

Here’re two of the lessons I learned

1-I learned to make more decisions as I go.

What I learned is that much of the drama in business and life comes from overthinking and not making decisions

rather postpone doing it because you want to learn more,

research when in many times is not necessary

2-learned to trust myself and focus on building self-trust through sticking to my promises

The following are a few ways that I used to start building self-trust

-started with small promises that I can easily do or I already do just bringing awareness to it,

-bringing awareness to the topic by learning about

-journaling about what I currently do that I can use as evidence that I trust myself

-doing things that I can do now with my current way of own thinking,

-asking and trusting my future self to give me advice and motivation

I share more lessons from 2020 in these two posts on Instagram you can find them below

part 1 of 2020 lessons here

part 2 of 2020 lessons here

4-What am I willing to let go of that’s taking space that isn’t helping you?  What will be room for?

This question has two parts

1st part about cleansing your mental, physical, and emotional space from anything that isn’t serving you toward achieving your goal(S) or isn’t serving you in general

2ed part about exploring what you can create/make when you let go of the things that are holding you back

in the following table, I share my answers

Let go ofWill be room for
The thought “ who am I to help people when I am afraid of being around people”It Will give me room to serve people, connect, be compassionate
Fear of getting attention because I used to hideBecome confident knowing I have value to offer, build my business as I want to
Fear of screwing things up Give me room to play, to experiment, to try
The “right or wrong way of thinking”Give me room to make decisions fast and experiment

5-A bonus question: who were you in January? who are you now?

how were you thinking, how did you act, how did you feel, how did you show up? what action did you take? …etc

on a personal, emotional and tangible level

write whatever comes to you. I won’t be sharing my answer because the post is already long but this’s a great Q and I don’t want you to not know it

Now, is your time to do it if you haven’t already

I am not judging you because I used to not do it until January and it would take me until early February to finish but doing it is better than not

Set 1h each day for a period of a week to answer them if you need to or else you can do it over the weekend  on 2- 4 h sessions depending on how fast you are

if you want more help doing the whole process and want to know why goals are important read this

the next step is setting your goals and planning them (use the workbook+follow along with this blog here or watch the video{it’s an old one but have the same process} to create your goals)

Here is a link to my goal setting video where I share the types of goals, which is better and how to set your goals for the year use it alongside the workbook click on the image
