Can’t Get Myself Motivated? 3 Powerful Ways To Get Motivated

So, you can’t get motivated you sit down to work or do a certain task but you just don’t feel like doing it

so, you reach for your phone, do some research, or do any work around the house

or you try to do something else that might help you feel motivated

something you enjoy like reading, going on a walk…etc i

n hopes that it helps you feel like doing the task

shocker!! you still don’t feel motivated to start that task

And you end up frustrated with yourself at the end of the day if you still didn’t get to it

and you think to yourself maybe tomorrow would be better

with a sneaky thought that sounds something like” This who am I kidding but I will be more disciplined instead “

I have done that more times than I can count. this is all wishful thinking!!

I KNOW, how you feel and I know you want to do better and

do the work that helps you reach your goals even if it’s not always exciting

That’s why, I wrote this article to help learn how to generate this feeling to do the work you want

this article is the 8th in start the Year Strong series

you’ll find the links to all the articles in the series at the end

  • why can’t you get motivated to do certain tasks and altogether
  • how to fix that so, you can take consistent action toward your goals

Let’s get to it

1-you’re not feeling excited, happy, inspired

you think you need to be to work which is a false notion that many people have including myself

what you need is to build the skill of doing the work no matter what

2- you feel like you need to have time to yourself first,

you need to rest but you you still feel guilty when you do it because it’s procrastination

This can be because you’re not actually giving yourself enough rest or any rest

and before you think about procrastination doesn’t count as rest even if you are not working in it

But you’re constantly thinking about work and what comes after

That’s why the rest needs to be addressed and will have a solution for it in the next section

3-You feel tired, exhausted, or rundown

That can be emotional, physical, or both

If you’re feeling tired then, why not rest!!

I know sometimes that is easier said than done for many of us high achievers but it needs to be done

otherwise, you can’t function at an optimal level or get the really scary and important tasks done

the solution in the next section

4-you’re feeling discomfort by doing the task

It could be because the task is scary, hard, tedious, and long and subconsciously your brain tries to escape

by wasting time doing anything else but the task

You need to address this and face it as the first step

then deal with feelings and put a concrete plan to combat it

can't get myself motivated? 3 ways to get motivated

1-give yourself an adequate amount of rest

Some productivity gurus won’t agree with this still to this day

when everyone knows how important it is For your mental and physical health

Our brains can’t function without rest and procrastination Even if it’s not working it is not rest either

So, you need to plan rest ”clean rest” where you rest without guilt that’s key to getting the benefits

how do you do it?

when you do your weekly planning count it in, schedule times on your calendar to it

And it’s important to label it as such on your calendar despite what you do in it

If you are having resistance to it then, think of it this way

If I am going to procrastinate anyway based on my behavior

then there’s no harm in taking deliberate rest instead so, I can have free time but not procrastinate

It can be at the same times as you procrastinate

Try it before you judge it

It’s hard because you relate your self-worth to what you do and to being productive

but doing this can help break that belief when you start doing other things

besides your goals and achieving

2-build a reward system in your day and reward yourself when you finish a task

The first one is to help you have motivation triggers throughout the day

How can you do that?

By planning less stressful and enjoyable things for you outside of your goals

eg. Learning a language, drawing, coloring, going for walks… you get the idea.

If you don’t know what you enjoy then why not experiment with it in your clean rest time

And your clean rest time can count as a reward too

for the second part, is to reward yourself every time you finish a task and randomly throughout the week

3-build the self-image of a self-motivated person

if you change how you see yourself regarding doing the work required to achieve your goals

then you’ll always find motivation because our self-image is a strong action driver

we always act in accordance with who we think we are that’s why it’s so important

how can you do it?

1-Write an affirmation about it eg. I am the kind of person who always does his/her work to her/his goals no matter what

I always do work first, I always get the important work done even when I don’t feel like it,

it’s possible for me to…etc these are some examples for you

2-Reapt it daily

3-Ask yourself: what a motivated person would do now? how do they show up? How do they get work done? how do they get work done when they don’t feel like it?

Write your answer and follow it. In this way, you’re practicing becoming that person before you really is

Because affirmation alone doesn’t work

4-Always remind yourself of who you are when you get to work

5-whenever you act in accordance with your desired self-image don’t act surprised instead normalize it by saying things like that’s like me, I always do my work no matter what..etc

6-act surprised whenever you act in accordance with your current self-image that you want to change

say things like that’s not like me, that’s strange …etc
