How To Not Let Setbacks Stop You? 8 Ideas For Overcoming Setbacks In Life
8 ideas for overcoming setbacks in life and work
Are you struggling? Are you failing? Do you feel stuck? Are you facing a roadblock right now in your life?
We all have setbacks. They make you struggle and face your own demons, come face to face with your inadequacies and life harshness
you are in one right now, that’s why you are here!
I wrote this post to give you ideas, mindsets, reminders, and tips on how to overcome your setback and any other setbacks in the future. Save this for later
What you’ll learn:
1-types of setbacks
2-ideas for overcoming setbacks

types of setbacks
1-external setbacks happen to you outside of your control, or by mistake, that stop, delay your progress toward your goal,
like a family emergency, health problems, unforeseen issues, or wrong investment..etc
2-Internal setbacks happen because of your thoughts and beliefs, world views, trauma, and mental health disorders. they are unintentional
like not believing yourself, not trusting yourself, lack of confidence, anxiety, chronic stress…etc, which lead you to sabotage, thus fail
8 ideas for overcoming setbacks and dealing with them
1-understand that they are part of the journey
Setbacks and failures are part of the journey. Denying and not wanting them is synonymous with not wanting the journey toward your goals and the life you want.
They will always happen, and that’s not important; what is important is how you react and deal with them
do you let them take over your life and stop you on your track, or acknowledge them,
deal with them, and continue going after the life you want or living your life
Remind yourself of this when shit hits the fan and internalize it
2-accept your shortcomings
You’ll sabotage, fall, hit rock bottom, fail, burn out..etc, despite how much you know and do
It may vary depending on the work you’ve done to get better at dealing and not falling prey to it
Still, from time to time, you’ll find yourself doing and in them
And that’s ok, accept that you’ll and did, learn to become more mindful when it happens,
and choose to change them at the time, or let them take their course
Remind yourself of this when it happens and internalize it
3-know that setbacks always help you become stronger
They definitely can if you let them and don’t resist them or try to run from them,
but instead, you learn from them and continue on your path toward your goals
They shape us and build our character and grow us.
They are not to fear or despair about, but to accept and embrace.
It’s not easy, but with practice, you will get better at that
4-let the emotions run their course
Setbacks come with a heavy set of emotions(disappointment, disheartenment, hopelessness, shame, guilt
Don’t deny your emotions; instead, learn to cope with them and let them be until they naturally shift
It’s ok to have them and care for them without letting them stop you
They make sense, you’re human, and humans are emotional.
Emotions guide us, show us what’s important to us and what’s not,
and can let us lose track or deter us from something important if we don’t relate them to our values
So, it’s important to cope with the emotions as that is the first step to overcoming the setbacks
Your feelings are valid and should be there; don’t shame yourself for them or what happened
Express your feelings through talking or writing
Because if you don’t, you can truly get stuck, which you don’t want.
That’s why take the time to care for your emotions

5-reflect and learn
Take the time to assess and understand why it happened, what you can do better, what lesson(s) you can take, do you need a change of direction, way, or else?,
What does it tell you? What message do you think is trying to teach you? What would this setback help you become if you let it?
Acceptance of them doesn’t mean we can’t learn from them, even if they happened due to circumstances
Let them help you become stronger because they can really just make you stronger
When you have a setback, it can lead you to wanting to evaluate your life and to take a closer look at your life or that specific area.
If that’s you, I have a very helpful guide that will help evaluate your life and make a plan moving forward, below

6-take the next best course of action
The next step is to think of what action to take, then take it
Actions are necessary to make progress and prevent getting stuck
And to keep going toward your goals again, stronger than before
7-course correct the basics
If you want a place to start taking action on i would say start with the essentials
If the setback or being busy in general led you to cut on the essentials, then this is the best time to get them back on track
The essentials are sleep, healthy eating, movement/workout, and religion
They are the pillars of life, not only your work and goals
You can’t build something with them out of shape or ruined completely
So, take this opportunity to mend them in an easy way(s)
Don’t make it hard or complicated, but something to support you in having a strong comeback
8-time out or off if you need it
Sometimes the situation calls for taking time off to reset and regroup to come back stronger than before. If that’s your case, then take it
The time varies depending on your case and whether you need outside help or not
Examples of situations that might need it:
1-hanging severe and paralyzing emotional response
2-caused you to have a mental health issue
3-have severe mental state problems like burnout

In conclusion,
Setbacks are temporary; they will pass. Don’t lose hope, no matter how big and impossible they feel.
The first step to take is caring for your emotions and mental well-being.
Remind yourself that it’s ok to have them, shift your perspective toward them depending on how you view them, really based on your action.
After that, reflect, plan your next move, then take action.
You got this!!
how did you deal with setbacks? What would you change if they happened again? commnet your answer

Totally agreed. Setbacks are part of life journey. They are supposed to heal you and make you return stronger. The more I take things easy, the life starts to align.

They can make you stronger if you don’t let it crush you. Yes, take things easy because the alternative is excruciating.

Agreed. Setbacks are part of life journey. You can pause and take break. But don’t quit. Thank you for sharing your tips. Keep up the good work. I always love reading your blog posts.

When you quit you give up on yourself and that isn’t the way to live life. Keep going despite setbacks; learn, reflect, redirect, take a break but don’t quit. You’re welcome. Thank you,I appreciate it.That made my day!<3
